Abstract:This experiment was conducted to research the effects of combination of different levels of selenium yeast and polysavone on egg quality, antioxidant ability and cholesterol metabolism of hens during late period of laying. Seven hundred and fifty-six 69-week-old Hyline Brown hens were randomly allocated into 7 groups with 6 replicates of 18 hens for each replication. Hens in the control group were fed a basal diet, and those in experimental groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.2 mg/kg selenium yeast+500 mg/kg polysavone, 0.2 mg/kg selenium yeast+1 000 mg/kg polysavone, 0.6 mg/kg selenium yeast+500 mg/kg polysavone, 0.6 mg/kg selenium yeast+1 000 mg/kg polysavone, 1.0 mg/kg selenium yeast+500 mg/kg polysavone and 1.0 mg/kg selenium yeast+1 000 mg/kg polysavone, respectively. The preliminary experiment was lasted for 2 weeks and the formal experiment lasted for 8 weeks. The results showed as follows:1) dietary selenium yeast and polysavone significantly increased the laying rate (P<0.05), significantly reduced the ratio of feed to egg (P<0.05), and tended to improve the eggshell thickness, albumen height and Haugh unit of laying hens. 2) Dietary selenium yeast and polysavone extremely significantly increased the activities of plasma glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total superoxide dismutase, GSH-Px activity in liver, mRNA expression levels of GSH-Px1 and thioredoxin reductase in liver of laying hens (P<0.01). Dietary selenium yeast and polysavone extremely significantly reduced the triglyceride content and the 3-hydroxyl-3-methyl-glutarate monoacyl coenzyme A reductase mRNA expression level in liver of laying hens (P<0.01), extremely significantly increased the mRNA expression levels of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase and sterol regulatory element binding protein in liver of laying hens (P<0.01), and extremely significantly increased the selenium content in yolk (P<0.01). 3) The combination of 0.6 mg/kg selenium yeast +1 000 mg/kg polysavone could extremely significantly increase plasma total antioxidant capacity (P<0.01), extremely significantly reduce the plasma malondialdehyde content (P<0.01), and extremely significantly decrease the contents of cholesterol and triglyceride in yolk and cholesterol content in liver of laying hens (P<0.01). It can be concluded that the diet supplemented with selenium yeast and polysavone can improve the performance, egg quality, antioxidant ability and cholesterol metabolism of laying hens. The best supplemental level is 0.6 mg/kg selenium yeast +1 000 mg/kg polysavone.
