Abstract:This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of riboflavin deficiency of duck breeders on birth weight, organ indexes, body shape indexes and plasma biochemical indexes of offspring. A total of 80 white Pekin duck breeders aged 40 weeks with similar body weight and egg production were allotted to two groups, which fed the basal diets without riboflavin (riboflavin deficiency group) and with 15 mg/kg riboflavin (control group), respectively, with ten replicates per group and four breeders per replicate. All birds were raised individually for 7 weeks. At the 7th weeks of the experiment, the eggs were collected for incubation, and the egg production, fertility, hatchability and egg yolk riboflavin content were determined. And organ indexes, body shape indexes, plasma riboflavin content and plasma biochemical indexes of the offspring were measured. The results showed as followed:1) compared with the control group, riboflavin deficiency did not affect the egg production and fertility rate (P>0.05). However, riboflavin deficiency reduced the hatchability significantly (P<0.05). 2) Compared with the control group, the offspring of riboflavin deficiency group had a greater egg sac weight, egg sac index, plasma alkaline phosphatase activity and plasma uric acid content (P<0.05), while had a lower leg length, egg yolk riboflavin, plasma riboflavin and total cholesterol contents (P<0.05). In conclusion, riboflavin deficiency in the diet seriously reduces the hatchability, egg yolk riboflavin, plasma riboflavin content of offspring, results in abnormal protein, lipid and nucleic metabolism, which leading to growth inhibition of offspring.
