Abstract:This study aimed to determine the effects of different proportions of corn bran in diets on growth performance, health status, serum biochemical indexes, organ indexes, slaughter performance, meat quality and economic efficiency of growing rabbits. A total of 150 weaned New Zealand white rabbits (male or female) aged 35 days with similar body weight[(719.80±45.66) g] were randomly divided into 5 groups with 15 replicates per group and 2 rabbits per replicate. The rabbits in the 5 groups were fed 5 isoenergetic, isonitrogenous and isofibrous diets containing 0 corn bran (C group, as control group,), 5% (T1 group), 10% (T2 group), 15% (T3 group) and 20% corn bran (T4 group), respectively. The experiment period was 35 days. The results showed as follows:1) there were no significant differences in the growth performance and health status indexes among groups (P>0.05), while the average daily gain (ADG) and feed/gain (F/G) of T2, T3 and T4 groups were better than that of the control group. Moreover, there was no animal died in T3 and T4 groups, and the mortality was lower than the other three groups. 2) There were no significant differences in the serum biochemical indexes among groups on the 2 time points (day 15 and day 36 of the experiment) (P>0.05). 3) There were no significant differences in the organ indexes (except for the kidney index on day 15) among groups on the 2 time points (P>0.05), the kidney index was increased with the increase of the corn bran proportions on day 15 of the experiment, and the T4 group was significantly higher than the control group and T1 group (P<0.05). 4) There were no significant differences in the slaughter performance and meat quality indicators (except for the drip loss) among groups (P>0.05), and the drip loss of T1 and T4 groups was lower than that of the control group (P>0.05) and T2 and T3 groups (P<0.05). 5) The economic efficiency of the test groups (except for T1 group) was higher than that of control group, especially T3 group. In general, under the condition of this experiment, corn bran can be used as feed ingredient for growing rabbits with the appropriate amount accounting for 15% of the diet.
