Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary zinc glycine chelate (Zn-Gly) on growth performance, immunological parameters and intestinal morphology in weanling piglets. One hundred and fifty 28-day-old crossbred piglets (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire) were randomly allocated to 5 groups (3 replicates in each group and 10 piglets per replicate) and fed with basal diets supplemented with 0, 50, 100, 200 mg/kg Zn as Zn-Gly or 3 000 mg/kg Zn as zinc oxide (ZnO). Feeding trial lasted for 35 d. The results showed as follows: compared with control group, average daily gain was significantly improved (P<0.01) for piglets fed 100 mg/kg Zn from Zn-Gly or 3 000 mg/kg Zn from ZnO; and 100 mg/kg Zn-Gly and 3 000 mg ZnO significantly improved the levels of serum IgG, IgM, C3 and C4, pancreas index, lymph index and villus height of duodenum (P<0.05); and 100 mg/kg Zn-Gly also significantly decreased crypt depth of jejunum (P<0.05). The results indicated that adding Zn-Gly into diets could improve the growth performance and the immunological characteristics of weanling piglets.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2010,22(1):176-180]
