The experiment was conducted to study the effects of different taurine levels on growth performance and anti-oxidative ability of AA broilers. One hundred and eighty healthy AA broilers were randomly divided into 6 treatments with 6 replicates, and each replicate contained 6 broilers. All the broilers were fed corn-soybean meal basal diets supplemented with 0, 0.05%, 0.10%, 0.15% and 0.20% taurine, respectively. At day 5 and day 21, the activities of GSH-Px, SOD, T-AOC and content of MDA were measured. The experiment lasted for 21 days. The results showed as follows, 1) in the AA broiler diets, supplementation of 0.10% and 0.15% taurine significantly improved average daily gain, and reduced the ratio of feed to gain (P<0.05); 2) at day 5, the groups adding with 0.10% and 0.15% taurine had the highest activitise of GSH-Px, SOD and T-AOC, and the lowest content of MDA in serum and liver; at day 21, the activitise of GSH-Px, SOD and T-AOC in serum and liver were the highest and the content of MDA was the lowest in the group added with 0.10% taurine; 3) the growth performance and anti-oxidant ability of broilers were decreased in the group added higher doze (0.20%) taurine. In conclusion, appropriate levels of taurine could improve the growth performance and anti-oxidative ability, but high taurine levels had negative effects, and the optimal level of broilers at 1~5 days of age was 0.10%~0.15%, and at 6~21 days of age was 0.10%, respectively.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2010,22(3):696-701]
