Abstract

Metallothionein (MT) is a kind of proteins with low molecular weight and rich in cysteines, which can be induced by many factors, such as metal ions, oxidative agents, cytokines and glucocorticoids, etc. Involved in many stress responses, it is called “stress protein” with multiple functions. In this paper, the emphasis is given to describe the onset and modulation of MT in each stress response as well as the roles it plays.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2011, 23(7):1079 -1084]
