Abstract

To study the effect of broccoli residues on the growth performance and meat quality in fast-growing Wenling grass-chickens, 450 1-day-old chickens were randomly allocated to 5 treatments, which was the control group and trial groups Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ. Each treatment contained 3 replicates of 30 chickens per replicate. There were 2 feeding periods which fed dietary broccoli residues at the level of 0, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% during 1~28 d and 0, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10% during 29~56 d, respectively. The results showed that: 1) there were no significant differences in the growth performance and carcass traits of fast-growing Wenling grass-chickens fed diet supplemented with broccoli residues (P>0.05); 2) compared with the control group, trial groups Ⅲ and Ⅳ improved the meat color, the contents of crude protein and inosinic acid of breast muscle (P<0.05); 3) adding broccoli residues to diet could decrease the concentrations of cholesterol in breast muscle, liver and serum (P<0.05). It was suggested that the addition of broccoli residues improved the meat quality and reduced the concentration of cholesterol in breast muscle and liver.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2010,22(1):194-200]
