The study was conducted to explore the true metabolic energy (TME) and the availability of conventional nutrients of corn distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) for Qingnonghui geese and Wulong geese with different treatments. For each breed, twenty four healthy male geese at the age of 150 d were selected, and were divided into 4 treatments with 6 replicates each and 1 goose in each replicate. Geese in treatment 1 were forced fed corn DDGS, treatment 2 were forced fed corn DDGS with microelements and vitamins, treatment 3 were forced fed corn DDGS with cornstarch, and treatment 4 were forced fed corn DDGS with microelements, vitamins and cornstarch. The goose was raised in a single cage individually and forced fed 120 g of feed every day. All feces were collected to determine the TME and the availability of nutrients of corn DDGS. The results showed that no significant differences were found in the TME and the availability of CP, EE, AA, ADF, NDF, CF, Ca and P among the 4 treatments of each breed (P>0.05). However, the TME of Qingnonghui geese in treatments 1 and 4 were significantly higher than that of Wulong geese (P<0.01). The availability of CP of Qingnonghui geese in treatment 4 (70.81%) was significantly higher than that of Wulong geese (P<0.05), and the availability of EE of Qingnonghui geese in treatment 3 was significantly higher than that of Wulong geese (P<0.01).The availability of NDF of Wulong geese in treatments 1, 2 and 4 was significantly higher than that of Qingnonghui geese (P<0.05 or P<0.01), the availability of ADF in treatments was 2, 3 and 4 was significantly higher than that of Qingnonghui geese (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the availability of CF in each treatment of Wulong geese was significantly higher than that of Qingnonghui geese (P<0.05). The results suggest that the corn DDGS has a very high efficiency of nutrients utilization for geese. No significant differences in the TME, the availability of nutrients of corn DDGS is found within the same breed of geese, but some differences in the availability of some nutrients of corn DDGS still occur between different breeds of geese.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2011,23(2):219-225]
