Abstract:This study aimed to investigate the effects of Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal on nutrient digestibility, serum biochemical indices and serum amino acid composition of finishing pigs. Seventy-two crossbred (Duroc×Landrace×Large White) female pigs were randomly allocated to three different dietary groups fed diets supplemented with 0 (control group), 4% and 8% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal to attain the same nitrogen and energy level, respectively. Each group consisted of 8 replicates with 3 pigs per replicate. The experimental period lasted for 46 days including 4 days adaption. The results showed as follows:1) compared with control group, dietary 4% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal significantly increased the organic matter digestibility (P<0.05), while dietary 8% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal significantly decreased the crude protein digestibility (P<0.05). 2) Compared with control group, dietary 4% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal significantly increased the contents of serum total protein, albumin and glucose (P<0.05), while significantly decreased the serum urea content (P<0.05). 3) Compared with control group, dietary 4% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal significantly increased the contents of serum valine, methionine, threonine and total essential amino acids (P<0.05). In conclusion, under the conditions of this test, dietary 4% Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal can regulate the serum biochemical indices related to nitrogen and glucose metabolism, promote the digestibility and absorptivity of nutrients, and improve amino acid balance in the body. These findings provide a new perspective on Hermetia illucens L. larvae meal as a suitable alternative protein source rich in nutrients for swine feed.
