Abstract:A 10-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing fish meal (FM) with pet grade poultry by-product meal (P-PBM) on growth performance, intestinal digestive enzyme activities and serum biochemical indexes of rice filed eels (Monopterus albus). In this experiment, five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated by replacing 0 (P-PBM0 group, as control group), 15% (P-PBM15 group), 30% (P-PBM30 group), 45% (P-PBM45 group) and 60% (P-PBM60 group) fish meal with pet grade poultry by-product meal in a basal diet, respectively. A total of 900 rice filed eel with an initial average body weight of (26.67±0.05) g were randomly allocated into 5 groups with 3 replicates per group and 60 fish per replicate. The results showed as follows:with the replacement ratio of fish meal by pet grade poultry by-product meal increasing, the weight gain rate showed a decrease trend, and the feed conversion rate showed an increase trend. The weight gain rate of rice field eel in the P-PBM45 and P-PBM60 groups was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05), and the feed conversion rate of rice field eel in the P-PBM60 group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the body composition of rice field eel in the replacement groups had no significant difference (P>0.05), but the intestinal lipase activity of rice field eel in the replacement groups was significantly decreased (P<0.05). When the replacement ratio exceeded 45%, the contents of serum high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, urea nitrogen, complement 3, complement 4, as well as the activities of serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase were significantly increased compared with the control group (P<0.05). The serum albumin and triglyceride contents in the P-PBM60 group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). To sum up, under the condition of this experiment, pet grade poultry by-product meal replaced less than 45% fish meal has no negative effect on the growth performance and physiological function of rice filed eel.
