Abstract:The purpose of this experiment was to study the effects of weaning time on the rumen microbial community structure and their functions of lambs. In this study, 90 mall tail cold lambs in Haidong area of Qinghai province with the similar initial condition were randomly divided into 3 groups, each group had 30 lambs, weaned in 30, 40 and 50 days of age, respectively, and reared to 90 days of age after the random slaughter of 6 animals, and then obtained rumen content samples to analyze the differences in the structure of the stomach fluid volatile fatty acid (VFA) contents and rumen microbial community structure and their functions. The results showed as follows:1) weight at 90 days of age and average daily weight gain in weaning at 40 days of age group were significantly higher than those in the other two groups (P<0.05). 2) Rumen fluid VFA and acetic acid content, acetic acid/butyric acid in weaning at 40 days of age group were significantly higher than those in the other two groups (P<0.05), the content of propionic acid was significantly lower than that in the other two groups (P<0.05), and isobutyric acid and butyric acid contents gradually decreased with the extension of weaning time(P<0.05). 3) Christensenellaceae R-7 group, Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group and Prevotella 1 were dominant bacteria for this experiment; lamb rumen bacteria diversity in weaning at 40 days of age group was higher than that in the other two groups; the relative abundance of Butyrivirio 2, Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group, Ruminococcus 2, Lachnospiraceae_NK3A20_group and Lachnospiraceae_XPB1014_group in weaning at 40 days of age group was significantly higher than that in the other two groups (P<0.05), and the relative abundance of Prevotella 1 and Rikenellaceae RC9 gut group in weaning at 40 days of age group were significantly lower than those in the other two groups (P<0.05). 4) Clusters of orthologous groups of proteins (COG) function found that lamb rumen bacteria function was mainly concentrated in carbohydrate and amino acid transport and metabolism. In summary, rumen microorganism (bacterial) system of lambs in weaing at 40 days of age group is more perfect, which is conducive to the growth and development of lambs, and can be used as the ideal weaning time of small tail cold sheep in Haidong area in the actual production.
