Abstract

Subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) is a prevalent metabolic disorder in dairy cows. The neutralization of salivary secretion on ruminal acid production is an important way of maintaining rumen health. The regulation of saliva secretion by body is an effective method for prevention of SARA. Most studies mainly used chewing activity as an indicator of evaluating salivary secretion, few studies evaluated the saliva secretion directly. Recent studies on regulation of saliva secretion by dietary pathway were reviewed in this paper for the purpose of providing references for prevention of SARA.
