Abstract

Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) is a key regulator influencing lipid metabolism in animal tissues. This review summarized the roles and probable regulatory mechanism of lipid metabolism by PUFA, which involve in genes expression and signaling pathway related to lipid metabolism, amount and secretory function of adipocytes, the role in epigenetic regulation and modification in ruminal microbiota, with the aim of providing theoretical basis for further studying in effects of PUFA on lipid metabolism in animals and regulation of lipid metabolism in animals by PUFA.
