Abstract

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of proportion of pitaya peel, alfalfa and concentrate on associative effects. The experiment using an in vitro gas production technique, and the proportion of concentrate, pitaya peel and alfalfa was 40:60:0, 40:45:15, 40:30:30, 40:15:45, 40:0:60 and 30:70:0, 30:55:15, 30:40:30, 30:25:45, 30:10:60, 30:0:70 when concentrate to roughage ratio was 40:60 and 30:70, respectively. Gas production (GP) of 11 feed combinations and 3 individual feed (concentrate, pitaya peel and alfalfa) fermented alone was recorded at 0, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 24, 36, 48 h, respectively. After incubation, the incubation fluid and residues were used to determine pH, total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) content, ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) content, dry matter degradability (DMD) and organic matter degradability (OMD), and the single-factor associative effects indexes (SFAEI) of each index and multiple-factors associative effects index (MFAEI) were calculate. The results showed as follows:when the concentrate to roughage ratio was 40:60, the SFAEI of 24 h gas production (GP24 h), DMD and OMD in 40:60:0 and 40:45:15 groups was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01), the SFAEI of TVFA and NH3-N in 40:60:0, 40:45:15 and 40:30:30 groups was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the MFAEI in 40:60:0 and 40:45:15 groups was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.01). When the concentrate to roughage ratio was 30:70, the SFAEI of GP24 h in 30:70:0 group was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.01), the SFAEI of DMD and TVFA in 30:70:0, 30:55:15 and 30:40:30 groups was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.01), the OMD and NH3-N in 30:70:0 and 30:55:15 groups were significantly higher than those in other groups (P<0.01), and the MFAEI in 30:70:0, 30:55:15 and 30:40:30 groups was significantly higher than that in other groups (P<0.01). In conclusion, when the concentrate to roughage ratio is 40:60, the MFAEI is the highest when concentrate:pitaya peel:alfalfa is 40:45:15; when the concentrate to roughage ratio is 30:70, the MFAEI is the highest when concentrate:pitaya peel:alfalfa is 30:70:0.
