Abstract:This experiment was conducted to study the effects of fermented rapeseed meal on growth performance and serum biochemical, hormone and antioxidant indexes of white male Muscovy ducks during 28 to 49 days of age. The rapeseed meal was fermented with Lactobacillus farciminis, Bacillus subtilis and Saccharomyces cerevisiate mixed culture, to prepare the fermented rapeseed meal. Two hundred and forty 28-day-old white male Muscovy ducks with same batch of hatching and similar body weight were randomly divided into 2 groups with 6 replicates in each group and 20 ducks in each replicate. Ducks in the control group were fed a basal diet containing 8% common rapeseed meal, and the others in the experimental group were fed the basal diet containing 8% fermented rapeseed meal. The experiment lasted for 21 days. The results were showed as follows:1) fermentation could effectively decreased the contents of glucosinolate and crude fiber in rapeseed meal, and increased the contents of crude protein and total amino acid. 2) The final body weight, average daily feed intake, average daily gain of experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). 3) The serum superoxide dismutase activity of experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.05), however, the other serum biochemical, hormone and antioxidant indexes of experimental group had no significant difference compared with the control group (P>0.05). In conclusion, fermentation can effectively reduce the glucosinolate content and improve the nutritional value of rapeseed meal. Replacement of common rapeseed meal by fermented rapeseed meal in diet can improve the growth performance of Muscovy ducks, but has no significant effects on serum biochemical and hormone indexes.
