Abstract:The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different floor types on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibilities and serum biochemical parameters of fattening sheep. A total of 135 healthy small-tailed sheep at the late fattening stage with similar weight were randomly divided into 3 groups with 3 replicates per group and 15 sheep per replicate. The floor types of 3 groups were solid earth floor (solid group), cement slatted floor (slatted group) and cement slatted floor blocked by cotton curtains (blocked-gap group). The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed as follows: 1) the floor temperature of blocked-gap group was significantly higher than that of solid group and slatted group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in floor relative humidity among all groups (P>0.05). 2) The feed to gain ratio of blocked-gap group and slatted group was significantly lower than that of solid group (P<0.05), and the average daily drinking water of blocked-gap group and slatted group was significantly lower than that of solid group (P<0.05), the average daily gain of blocked-gap group and slatted group was significantly higher than that of solid group (P<0.05). 3) The apparent digestibilities of neutral detergent fiber and phosphorus of blocked-gap group were significantly higher than those of slatted group and solid group (P<0.05), and the slatted group was significantly higher than that of solid group (P<0.05). The apparent digestibilities of dry matter and crude protein of blocked-gap group were significantly higher than those of solid group (P<0.05), the organic matter apparent digestibility of slatted group was significantly lower than that of blocked-gap group and solid group (P<0.05), and the calcium apparent digestibility of blocked-gap group and slatted group was significantly higher than that of solid group (P<0.05). 4) The serum growth hormone content of blocked-gap group was significantly higher than that of solid group (P<0.05), the contents of triiodothyronine and thyroxine in serum of blocked-gap group were significantly lower than those of slatted group (P<0.05), and the serum urea nitrogen content of blocked-gap group and slatted group was significantly higher than that of solid group (P<0.05). In conclusion, the cement slatted floor blocked by cotton curtains can improve the floor temperature, alleviate cold stress of fattening sheep, improve the growth performance of fattening sheep and nutrient apparent digestibilities.
