Abstract:This experiment was to study the effects of dietary daidzein on laying performance, egg quality and plasma hormone indices of laying hens during late laying cycle. One hundred and eighty 60-week-old Hyland brown hens with similar egg laying rate were selected and randomly divided into a control group and a daidzein group, with six replicates in each group and 15 chickens in each replicate. The control group was fed a basic diet, while the daidzein group was fed the basal diet supplemented with 30 g/t daidzein. The experiment lasted for 8 weeks. The results showed that compared with the control group, diets supplemented with 30 g/t daidzein significantly reduced the feed/egg of laying hens during weeks 1 to 4, weeks 5 to 8 and weeks 1 to 8 (P<0.05), significantly increased the egg laying rate of laying hens during weeks 5 to 8 and weeks 1 to 8 (P<0.05), besides, it significantly increased the Haugh units of egg at weeks 4 and 8 (P<0.05), and it also significantly increased the concentrations of triiodothyronine, follicle stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, progesterone, and estradiol in plasma of laying hens at week 8 (P<0.05). In summary, diets supplemented with 30 g/t daidzein can improve the laying performance, egg quality and plasma hormone concentrations.
