Abstract:This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of adding different types of methionine in fully mixed granules on growth performance, serum biochemical indexes and hormone contents of Hu sheep. Seventy-two healthy Hu sheep weighing (19.99±2.04) kg were selected. They were randomly divided into 3 groups: control group (a basal diet), experimental Ⅰ group (adding 1.5 kg/t calcium methionine salt) and experimental group Ⅱ [adding 1.5 kg/t 2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio) butanoic acid isopropyl ester, HMBi in the basal diet], each group had 6 repetitions, with 4 sheep in each repetition. The pre-feeding period was 7 days, and the formal period was 80 days. The results showed as follows: 1) the total weight gain and daily weight gain of experimental group Ⅰ and experimental group Ⅱ had an upward trend. The total weight gain of experimental group Ⅰ increased by 12.8% (P>0.05), and the total weight gain of experimental group Ⅱ increased by 3.1% (P>0.05). In terms of feed/gain, both the experimental Ⅰ group and the experimental Ⅱ group had a downward trend. Among them, the experimental I group had dropped by 12.2%, and the experimental Ⅱ group had dropped by 3.6% (P>0.05). 2) The contents of serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in experimental group Ⅱ were significantly higher than those in the control group and the experimental group Ⅰ (P<0.05), and there were no significant differences in the antioxidant indexes and hormone contents (P>0.05). In summary, the addition of HMBi and methionine calcium salt in the diet can increase the growth rate of sheep, reduce the feed/gain, and at the same time affect some of the serum biochemical indexes, and have no significant effect on serum antioxidant indexes and hormone contents.
