Abstract

Deoxynivalenol (DON), a kind of mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species, is widely found in food and feed, which poses a serious threat to human health and food safety. DON also called vomitoxin, has toxic effect on intestinal, brain and nervous system of animals, causing anorexia and emesis. This review summarizes the mechanism of DON induced anorexia and emesis, and discusses the potential relationship between gut microbiota and DON induced anorexia and emesis, with the aim to provide some new ideas for further study on the mechanism of DON induced anorexia and emesis.
