Abstract

Energy and protein are the two most important nutrients in diets of sows, accounting for more than 90% of dietary composition and feed cost. Their levels, sources and proportions have important effects on reproductive performance of sows. The level of energy not only affects the reproductive performance of sows, but also may affect the reproductive life and lifetime fecundity of sows. The main energy sources of the diet are. Different energy sources and the proportions of starch, fat and fiber have different effects on the initiation of estrus, embryo development and lactation performance of sows. The three nutrients synergistically regulate the reproductive performance of sows. The protein level also significantly affects the reproductive performance of sows. Protein sources are mainly related to amino acid levels, and the effects of amino acid level on embryo development and lactation performance have always been a hotspot in nutrition research and application of sows. In this paper, the research findings on energy and protein nutrition in sows were reviewed to provide important basis for the precise feed formulation and the application of cost-saving and profit-increasing measures of sows.

Key words: sows; energy; protein
