Abstract

The gut microbiota is inextricably linked to the health and well-being of the host, and diet has been shown to alter the composition and function of the gut microbiota of dogs and cats. The intestinal flora of dogs and cats can ferment and decompose chyme nutrients that are not digested by intestinal digestive enzymes to regulate their own growth and reproduction, and the intestinal flora will further promote the host's nutrient digestion and metabolism and health regulation. In recent decades, a great deal of research has been done on the intestinal health and intestinal microflora of dogs and cats to ensure their health and welfare. In this paper, the effects of diet on intestinal microflora in dogs and cats were reviewed, and some new results of the application of probiotics and other functional food additives in dogs and cats were introduced.
