Abstract

In order to study the degradation characteristics of different types of forages in Yunan yellow cattles, nylon-bag technique was used to evaluate the disappearance rates and effective degradabilities of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of six types of forages. The results showed as follows: DM disappearance rate and effective degradability of alfalfa powder were the highest at 72 h among six types of forages, and closed to those of annual ryegrass powder (P>0.05), but significantly higher than those of alfalfa block, Vicia atropurpurea powder, barley straw powder, and Setaria powder (in descending order) (P<0.01); OM disappearance rate and effective degradability had the same trend with DM at 72 h; CP disappearance rate and effective degradability of alfalfa powder at 72 h were the highest among six types of forages, and significantly higher than those of alfalfa block, annual ryegrass powder, Vicia atropurpurea powder, barley straw powder, and Setaria powder (in descending order) (P<0.01); disappearance rates of NDF and ADF of alfalfa powder at 72 h were the highest among types of forages, and significantly higher than those of alfalfa block, annual ryegrass powder, Vicia atropurpurea powder, barley straw powder, and Setaria powder (in descending order) (P<0.01); effective degradabilities of NDF and ADF of alfalfa powder were the highest among types of forages, and closed to alfalfa block (P>0.05), but significantly higher than those of annual ryegrass powder, Vicia atropurpurea powder, barley straw powder, and Setaria powder (in descending order) (P<0.01). For Yunnan yellow cattles, alfalfa powder has the highest nutritional value, while the Setaria powder has the lowest nutritional value among the six types of testing forages.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition,2011,23(1):53-60]
