The experiment was conducted to examine the expression of FBXO32 and the epithelium structure of jejunum in the suckling piglets. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR was carried out to quantify FBXO32 expression on day 3, 8, 14 and 21 and the day on birth (day 0) for Yorkshire piglets. At the same time the epithelium structure of jejunum was observed by using optical microscope and transmission electron microscope. Results showed that FBXO32 expressed in postnatal jejunum of piglets during suckling. The expression level increased 1.16, 3.89 and 11.83 times on day 3, 14 and 21 compared with that on day 0. The expression level on day 8 decreased to 53% of that on day 0. Optical microscopy results indicated that the number, height and width of jejunum villus and crypt depth significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Observation on ultrastructure demonstrated that suckling kept the jejuna microvillus in good uniformity and free ribosomes, mitochondria and rough endoplasmic reticulum in abundance. But mitochondria became slight swelling on day 3 and 8, while there was not such phenomenon on day 14 and 21. In conclusion, the results showed that FBXO32 gene expression and morphology had significantly changed in jejunum of suckling piglets. [Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2009,21(6):987-992]
