Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of alanyl-glutamine (Ala-Gln) on growth and antioxidant capacity of Hucho taimen larva. Six experimental diets containing different level of Ala-Gln (with the levels of 0, 0.125%, 0.250%, 0.500%, 0.750% and 1.000%, respectively) were randomly assigned to 6 groups (with 3 replicates and 1 000 fish in each replicate) for 8 weeks. The results showed as follows: compared with the control group, the growth performance was not influenced by adding 0.125% Ala-Gln (P>0.05); weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) were increased significantly by adding 0.500%~1.000% Ala-Gln (P<0.05 or P<0.01) and survival rate was increased significantly by adding more than 0.125% Ala-Gln (P<0.05 or P<0.01); glutamine of fish body tissue fluid was increased by adding more than 0.500% Ala-Gln (P<0.05) and glutamic acid content was increased significantly by adding 0.750% and 1.000% Ala-Gln (P<0.05); Na+, K+-ATPase activity were increased by adding 0.500% and 0.750% Ala-Gln (P<0.05); superoxide dismutase (SOD) was increased (P<0.05) and malondialdehyde (MDA) was decreased significantly (P<0.05 or P<0.01), but amino acid content wasn’t influenced by adding Ala-Gln (P>0.05). It was concluded that the growth performance and antioxidant capacity of Hucho taimen larva could be improved by adding Ala-Gln, and the appropriate adding level of Ala-Gln was 0.750%.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2009,21(6):1012-1017]
