Abstract

The objective of this experiment was to study the effects of different dietary levels of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) on serum immune indices and IL-2 mRNA expression in spleen of laying hens. Four hundred and eighty 30-week-old Hisex hens were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates per group and thirty hens per replicate. Hens in control group (group Ⅰ) were fed a basal diet, and the others in experimental groups (groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ) were fed the basal diet supplemented with 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg AMPs, respectively. The experiment lasted for four weeks. The results showed as follows: dietary AMPs in experimental group could increase spleen coefficient, the spleen coefficient in group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the content of serum immunoglobulin A in groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ was increased by 7.69%(P>0.05), 19.40%(P<0.05)and 14.38% (P>0.05), respectively, and serum immunoglobulin G content was increased by 12.69% (P>0.05), 21.24% (P<0.05) and 9.10%(P>0.05), respectively. However, there were no significant effects on the contents of serum immunoglobulin M, complement 3 and complement 4. The expression level of IL-2 mRNA in spleen in groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in groups Ⅰ and Ⅳ (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between group Ⅰ and group Ⅳ (P>0.05). In conclusion, AMPs can enhance immune function of laying has, and adding 400 mg/kg AMPs to diets for laying hens has the optimum effect.
