Abstract

Extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) is an important molecule in signal transduction, and also an important member of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) family. ERK signaling pathway is the mainly pathway for regulation of cell proliferation for most growth factors, cytokines, and involves in cell differentiation and promote cell cycle progression. This review summarizes characteristics of ERK signaling pathway and its regulatory roles in apoptosis, and discusses the relationship between the ERK signaling pathway and growth and development, post-mortem changes of muscles combining with changes and the characteristics of the signal cascade in the muscle after slaughtered.
