In order to investigate the effect of organically chelated manganese on nutrient metabolism in female minks during the pre-mating period, one hundred and fifty healthy female minks with an average body weight of (1 005±113) g were selected and assigned into five groups by randomized blocks, and there were thirty replicates in each group and one mink per replicate. Supplemental levels of manganese were 0 (group Ⅰ), 15 (group Ⅱ), 50 (group Ⅲ), 100 (group Ⅳ) and 500 mg/kg (group Ⅴ), respectively. Manganese was added as an organically chelated agent. The pre-experimental period lasted for 12 d, and the experimental period lasted for 3 d. The results showed as follows: 1) the dry matter intake of group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that in group Ⅰ and group Ⅴ (P<0.01), group Ⅱ, group Ⅲ and group Ⅳ were significantly higher than group Ⅴ (P<0.01); difference of dry matter apparent digestibility among groups was not significant (P>0.05), the highest was in group Ⅳ, while the lowest was in group Ⅴ. 2) The retention of crude protein in group Ⅴ was the lowest and significantly different from that in the other groups (P<0.05), the highest retention was in group Ⅳ; there was no significant difference in apparent digestibility of crude protein among groups (P>0.05), but the highest was in group Ⅳ. 3) Difference of apparent digestibility of ether extract among groups was not significant (P>0.05), but the apparent digestibility tended to increase at first and then decrease with the improving of manganese supplemental level. In conclusion, the optimal supplemental level of manganese for female minks during the pre-mating is 100 mg/kg.
