Abstract

Vitamin D metabolites modulate calcium absorption and bone formation in animal nutrition. This article is aimed to briefly illustrate vitamin D metabolism and function, molecular mechanism for regulating calcium absorption by vitamin D metabolites, and application of the metabolites in livestock and poultry production.

Key words: vitamin D; calcium; metabolism
