Abstract

The phosphotyrosine interaction domain containing 1 (PID1) gene is a novel gene associated with fat metabolism regulation. PID1 gene expression can be detected in multiple tissues of different animals. Overexpression of PID1 gene dramatically stimulates preadipocytes proliferation, and affects mRNA expression levels of candidate genes for meat quality traits, such as peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) and uncoupling protein (UCP). Study on effects of PID1 on meat quality of livestock and poultry and its mechanism can provide new methods for improving the meat quality. The paper reviews the discovery and expression profile of PID1 gene, the structure of PID1 protein, the relationship between PID1 and candidate genes for meat quality traits and its possible role in regulating meat quality of livestock and poultry.
