Abstract

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of compound probiotics and antibiotics on the growth performance, immune function and antioxidant indices of broilers. Five hundred one-day-old female broiler chickens were randomly divided into 5 groups with 4 replicates in each group and 25 chickens per replicate. The chickens in the control group(group Ⅰ)were only fed a basal diet, group Ⅴ was the antibiotics group, and groups Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ were compound probiotics groups, supplemented with 1.0‰, 2.0‰ and 4.0‰ compound probiotics, respectively. The pre-trial period lasted for 3 days, and the experiment lasted for 35 days. Growth performance, immune function and antioxidant indices were determined in different periods. The results showed as follows: 1) in every test period, compared with the control group and antibiotics group, the average daily gain of broilers in group Ⅲ was significantly higher (P<0.05); except feed/gain (F/G) at age of 4 to 10 days and 32 to 38 days, the F/G in group Ⅲ was significantly lower (P<0.05); 2) at the age of 24 days, the spleen index and the bursa of Fabricius index in group Ⅲ were all higher than those in group Ⅴ (P<0.05), higher above 40.6% and 47.7%, respectively; at the age of 17 days and 24 days, the serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations in group Ⅲ were all higher than those in group Ⅴ (P<0.05), higher above 24.3% and 16.2%, respectively; the secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) of intestinal fluid in group Ⅲ were all higher than those in group Ⅴ, higher above 11.4% and 39.3%, respectively (P<0.05) at the age of 24 days and 31 days; at the age of 10 days and 38 days, the antibody titer in group Ⅲ were all higher than those in group Ⅴ, higher above 37.0% and 32.4%, respectively(P<0.05);3) at the age of 10 days and 38 days, the serum total antioxidant capacity in group Ⅲ were all higher than those in group Ⅴ, higher above 45.2% and 56.7%, respectively. In conclusion, the supplementation of 2.0‰ compound probiotics can improve growth performance, and enhance the antioxidant function of broilers. Meanwhile, the supplementation of compound probiotics can improve the immune function of broilers to some degree.
