Abstract

ovocleidin-17 is the first isolated and identified eggshell-specific matrix protein from avians, and it plays an important role in the formation of calcite crystals of eggshell matrix and it maybe related to antibacterial action of eggshell. This article summarized molecular structure, homologous proteins, physiological functions of ovocleidin-17 and put forward the development direction and potential application of the protein.
