Abstract

Occludin is one of the important compositions of tight junction proteins. It has some functions, such as maintaining epithelial cell polarity, regulating cell-cell adhesion, accepting and transferring cell signal. This paper reviewed the structure, function, and related regulatory mechanism of occludin. Meanwhile the application of occludin in disease treatments and animal science was discussed.
