Abstract

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio on growth, body composition and digestive enzyme activities of juvenile peanut worm, Sipunculus nudus Linnaeus. Five groups of juvenile peanut worms with an average body weight of (16.77±0.40) mg were fed 5 isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets with different carbohydrate/lipid ratios (0.68, 1.02, 1.62, 2.61 and 4.35, respectively) for 8 weeks. Each group had 3 replicates and 400 juvenile peanut worms in each replicate. The results showed that dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio had no significant effect on survival ratio of juvenile peanut worm (P>0.05), but had significant effects on weight gain rate (WGR) and specific gain rate (SGR) (P<0.05). With the dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio increasing, the WGR and SGR of juvenile peanut worm were firstly increased and then decreased. When the dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio was 2.61 (carbohydrate content was 20.64%, and crude lipid content was 7.92%), both WGR and SGR reached the maximum values, they were 451.78% and 3.41%/d, respectively. Dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio had significant effects on the contents of body moisture, crude protein and crude lipid (P<0.05), but had no significant effect on body ash content of juvenile peanut worm (P>0.05). The contents of moisture and crude protein were the highest and the crude lipid content was the lowest when the dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio was 4.35 (carbohydrate content was 24.56%, and crude lipid content was 5.64%), and there were significant differences compared with the dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio was 0.68 (carbohydrate content was 10.48%, and crude lipid content was 15.43%). Dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio had significant effects on the activities of amylase and lipase of juvenile peanut worm (P<0.05), but had no significant effect on protease activity (P>0.05). The regression model analysis indicates that the most suitable dietary carbohydrate/lipid ratio which can make juvenile peanut worm acquire the best WGR is 2.42.
