Abstract

Carbohydrate and protein account for the most of feed nutrients, and accurate assessment of their nutritional values and ruminal metabolism become more and more significant. Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System(CNCPS)as an important method to evaluate feeds nutritional values, has not been widely used in ruminant production in China. This paper systematically reviewed the division of carbohydrate and protein fractions in CNCPS and their changes, as well as revealed the diversity of carbohydrate and protein fractions in different feedstuffs and variation of rumen degradation rate (Kd) and passage rate (Kp). The relationship and difference between CNCPS system and other assessment systems were also reviewed.
