Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of dietary crude protein (CP) and metabolizable energy (ME) levels on growth performance and nitrogen and energy balance of Sichuan white geese aged from 1 to 3 weeks. A total of 540 healthy one-day-old Sichuan white geese with similar body weight were used in a 3×3 double factorial design trial and randomly allocated into 9 groups with 4 replicates in each group and 15 geese in each replicate. The geese were fed 9 experimental diets with three levels of CP (23%, 20% and 17%) and three levels of ME (12.86, 12.13 and 11.43 MJ/kg). The experiment lasted for 21 days. The results showed as follows: 1) with the increased of dietary CP level, the final weight, average daily gain and consumed CP for gain per gram were significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01), but the ratio of feed to gain and the consumed ME for gain per gram were significantly decreased (P<0.05). The interaction between dietary CP and ME levels significantly affected the consumed CP for gain per gram and consumed ME for gain per gram (P<0.01). 2) With the increased of dietary CP level, the availability of nitrogen was significantly decreased (P<0.01); with the increased of dietary ME level, the GE intake, ME and availability of GE were significantly decreased (P<0.01). The results suggest that for Sichuan white geese aged from 1 to 3 weeks, the dietary levels of CP and ME are 20% and 11.43 MJ/kg, respectively.
