Abstract

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary mannose oliogosaccharides (MOS) on growth performance, antioxidant ability and intestinal microflora of juvenile blunt anout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala). A total of 360 juvenile blunt anout bream with the average body weight of (1.05±0.01) g were randomly divided into 4 groups with 3 replicates per group and 30 fish per replicate. The fish in control group were fed a basal diet, and the fish in MOS supplemental groups were fed the experimental diets supplemmented with 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg MOS on the basis of basal diet, respectively. After 8 weeks feeding, the results showed as follows: there were no significantly differences in weight gain rate, feed conversion ratio and survival rate among all groups (P>0.05). Compared with control group, supplementation with 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg MOS significantly improved the liver superoxide dismutase and catalase activities (P<0.05), while significantly decreased the liver malonaldehyde content (P<0.05). Furthermore, the denatured gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) fingerprints demonstrated that the Shannon-Wiener index of intestinal microflora in 200 and 400 mg/kg MOS groups was significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.05), and the main predominant bacteria in 200 and 400 mg/kg MOS groups were Actinobacteria, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes. It is concluded that supplementation with 200 to 400 mg/kg MOS can elevate the antioxidant ability and improve the intestinal microflora structure of juvenile blunt anout bream.
