Abstract

The lipopolysaeehafide (LPS) was used to induce immunological stress in order to investigate the effects of immunological stress on calcium and phosphorus metabolism of laying hens. Twenty laying hens of same body weight and performance were divided into LPS group and control group, the LPS group hens were treated with intraperitoneal injection by 0.15 mg/kg, while the control group hens were injected with saline by the same dose. The injection was conducted for 10 days. The performance was counted and the metabolism test of calcium and phosphorus was conducted during the experiment. The results showed as follows: 1) the average daily feed intake decreased significantly only in the first day (P<0.05), then it recovered to same level to the control group. The trends of eggshell thickness and eggshell hardness had no significant differences between the two groups (P>0.05). 2) The tibia index, tibia plumpnessand so on had no significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). The tibia section of the LPS group hens showed the inner circumferential lamellae happened to be damaged, and some of the trabeculae were broken. 3) The metabolism test of calcium and phosphorus showed that there was no significant difference of calcium and phosphorus metabolism indexes (P>0.05). The content of calcium and phosphorus in serum of LPS group significantly decreased compared with the control group (P<0.05), while the serum alkaline phosphatase activity showed no changes (P>0.05). The results suggests that the LPS can change the feed intakes of laying hens, and it cause the fluctuation of the egg quality in a short period, but as the time goes, the impacts to the performance can be weakened. LPS can decrease the content of calcium and phosphorus in serum, but it has no influence on the egg quality and the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus.
