Abstract

This trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of high-dose daidzein on ovary tissue of laying hens. Six hundred and forty Hy-Line brown laying hens with average body weight and laying rate were randomly assigned to 4 groups with 8 replicates per group and 20 birds per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, and the others were fed diets supplemented with 10 (the maximum recommended available amount), 50 (fives fold of maximum recommended available amount) and 100 mg/kg (ten folds of maximum recommended available amount) of daidzein. The experiment lasted for 12 weeks. The results showed that the contents of serum daidzein and equol, ovary weight, morphology, positive cell number of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), expression quantity of IL-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α mRNA of ovary tissue were not significantly affected by daidzein (P>0.05). It is indicated that daidzein can improve the performance and egg quality, but hold no observed adverse effect on ovary tissue of laying hens, which can be safe.
