Abstract

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary fat level on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen (N) metabolism and reproductive performance of female mink (Neovison vison). One hundred and twenty healthy primiparous mink with the similar body weight were randomly assigned into 4 groups with 3 replicates per group and 10 larva mink per replicate. The mink in the 4 groups were fed diets with 45% protein and 10% (F10 group), 14% (F14 group), 18% (F18 group) and 22% (F22 group) fat, respectively. The experiment was from mating to whelping. The results showed that dietary fat level did not significantly affect the digestibility of dry matter and crude protein (P>0.05), but the digestibility of fat was improved with dietary fat level increasing, and F18 and F22 groups were significantly higher than F10 group (P0.05), but they were significantly better than other groups (P<0.05). Considering all the factors, when the dietary protein level is 45%, the suitable dietary fat level is 14% to 18% under the condition of this experiment. Furthermore, suitable fat level of diets for mink can improve protein utilization.
