Abstract

Complex and diverse microorganisms, that inhabit in the cecum of equine play an important role in the digestion of carbohydrate and the health of the body and it is the basis of the cecum function of equine animals. At the same time, the dietary carbohydrate could also affect the cecal microorganisms. It has positive guiding significance on the feed production, animal feeding and the improvement of animal production performance to explore the the digestion and metabolism of dietary carbohydrate in the cecum, its impact on cecal microorganisms and the rule. This paper summarized the characteristics of cecal microorganisms, their significances and functions in the carbohydrate digestive physiology of equine, as well as the carbohydrate digestive physiology in the cecum of equine. The effects and rule of dietary carbohydrate composition on the cecal microflora, as well as the current research status and development of nutritional and metabolic diseases related to the carbohydrate digestion in the cecum of equine were analyzed and investigated with great emphasis.
