Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study the effects of pea gluten meal on growth performance, nutrient apparent digestibility, digestive organs development and serum biochemical indexes of Gaoyou ducks aged from 1 to 4 weeks. A total of 160 one-day-old Gaoyou ducks were randomly divided into 4 groups with 4 replicates per group and 10 ducks per replicate. Ducks in the control group (group C0) were fed a corn-soybean meal basal diet, and the others in the experimental groups (groups C1, C2 and C3) were fed experimental diets which used 3%, 6% and 9% pea gluten meal replaced soybean meal in the basal diet. The experiment lasted for 28 days. The results showed as follows:1) the average daily gain and average daily feed intake in groups C1, C2 and C3 were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05); the ratio of feed to gain in group C1 was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05), but the ratio of feed to gain in groups C2 and C3 was no significant differences compared with the control group (P>0.05). 2) The apparent digestibilities of crude protein (CP) and total phosphorus (TP) in groups C1, C2 and C3 were no significant differences compared with control group (P>0.05), the apparent digestibilities of crude fiber (CF), ether extract (EE) and calcium (Ca) in group C2 were also no significant differences compared with control group (P>0.05), but the apparent digestibilities of CF, EE and Ca in groups C1 and C3 were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). 3) Pea gluten meal had no significant effects on the relative weight of proventriculus, pancreas and duodenum (P>0.05). The relative weight of gizzard in group C1 was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05), the relative weight of jejunum and ileum in group C2 were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). The density of duodenum and jejunum, relative length of ileum in group C2 were significantly higher than those in control group (P<0.05). 4) Pea gluten meal had no significant effects on the contents of albumin (ALB), glucose (GLU) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) in serum (P>0.05). The serum total protein (TP) content in group C3 was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05), the serum urea nitrogen (UN) content in groups C1 and C3 was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05), the serum triglyceride (TG) content in groups C1, C2 and C3 was significantly higher than that in control group (P<0.05). The contents of total cholesterol (TC) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC) in serum in groups C1 and C3 were significantly lower than those in control group (P<0.05). In conclusion, pea gluten meal replaced soybean meal in the diet can reduce the average daily gain and average daily feed intake of Gaoyou ducks aged from 1 to 4 weeks. However, there is no effect on the nutrient apparent digestibility of 6% pea gluten protein meal instead of soybean meal, and the ratio of feed to gain is lower than control group, it is helpful to improve the development index of intestinal organs and affect the metabolism of protein and fat in the serum. So, it is suggested that 6% pea protein powder as application amount in Gaoyou duck diets.
