Abstract

The quality of the oocytes directly affects its fertilization rate, the survival of early embryos, and even the adult disease. Zinc, one of the essential trace elements in mammalian, is the most functional one in the trace elements till now. Recent researchers have found that zinc play important roles in the oocyte quality. It have indicated that zinc has the regulatory function in oocyte meiosis through maturation promoting factor (MPF) activity and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. Zinc regulate oocyte antioxidant function through glutathione, and affect animal oocyte quality by influence the level of histone and DNA methylation. This paper will review the effects of zinc on the mammalian oocyte quality and its action pathway.

Key words: zinc; mammalian; oocyte; quality
