Abstract

The experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary manganese on lipid metabolism of fat tissue in growing Rex rabbits. Two hundred 3-month-old health Rex rabbits with similar body weight and good health were randomly divided into 5 groups with 40 replicates in each group and 1 rabbit in each replicate. Rabbits in 5 groups were fed a basal diet containing 0 (control), 5, 10, 20 and 40 mg/kg manganese (in the form of manganese sulfate), respectively. The trial lasted for 7 days for adaptation, and 29 days for test. The results showed as follows:1) compared with the control group, the addition of 10 to 20 mg/kg manganese significantly reduced the scapular fat deposition rate (P<0.05), and the addition of 5 to 40 mg/kg manganese significantly reduced the perigastric fat deposition rate (P<0.05). The level of manganese in the diet had no effect on the perirenal fat deposition rate (P>0.05). 2) The levels of manganese added to the diet had no significant effects on the expression levels of carnitine fatty acyltransferase 2 (CPT2), hormone sensitive lipase (HSL) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta (PPARβ) genes (P>0.05). Compared with the control group, the addition of 20 to 40 mg/kg manganese significantly reduced the expression level of fatty acid synthase (FAS) gene (P<0.05); the addition of 20 to 40 mg/kg manganese significantly reduced the expression of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) gene (P<0.05); the addition of 10 to 40 mg/kg manganese in the diet significantly increased the expression of carnitine fatty acyltransferase 1 (CPT1) gene (P<0.05); the addition of 10 to 20 mg/kg manganese in the diet significantly increased the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) gene (P<0.05). From what has been discussed above, addition of manganese affects fat deposition and fat metabolism of Rex rabbits. When the level of manganese addition is 20 mg/kg, it can effectively promote the oxidation and decomposition of fat in fat tissue, inhibit fat synthesis in fat tissue, and reduce the deposition rate of body fat.
