Abstract

Lipolysis is an important way for perinatal dairy cows to provide energy and alleviate the negative energy balance. Elevated rates of lipolysis during the perinatal period may be accompanied by an acute adipose tissue remodeling process, which increases the metabolic stress of dairy cows and therefore increase the risk for fatty liver and ketosis and other nutritional metabolic diseases. This review summarized the metabolic process and energy supply of lipolysis and its main regulatory factors of dairy cows during perinatal period, and expounded the characteristics of adipose tissue remodeling in the process of acute lipolysis in transition dairy cows from four aspects:changes in adipocytes proportion, changes in extracellular matrix composition, macrophage infiltration, and angiogenesis, and then investigated the mechanism of how these biological processes affect health and performance of dairy cows during perinatal period.
