Abstract

The gastrointestinal development during early life is vital to the health and production of animals. The microbiota colonized in the gastrointestinal tract ferment feed and produce short-chain fatty acids, vitamins, amino acid derivatives and bile acids to modulate the development and function of gastrointestine. While the establishment of the microbial community is a very complex process, with its succession and "maturation" dominated by the niche preoccupation and modification of rumen microorganisms. Nutrients and exogenous microorganism regulate gastrointestinal development through altering the composition of native microbial community. Compared to the exogenous microbiota, rumen microbial transplantation targeted at young ruminants is a more effective way to reestablish rumen microbial community, and thus realize a more efficient regulation of rumen development.
