Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of lysophosphatidylcholine (LPL) on growth performance, intestinal digestive enzyme activity and antioxidant ability of broilers. A total of 480 health Arbor Acres broilers of 22-day-old were randomly assigned into 4 groups with 10 replicates in each group and 12 chickens in each replicate. Broilers in the control group were fed a basal diet, and those in the other three groups were fed the basal diets supplemented with 200 (LPL200 group), 300 (LPL300 group) and 400 mg/kg LPL (LPL400 group), respectively. The experiment lasted for 21 days. The results showed as follows:1) compared with the control group, the average weight of broilers at 42 days of age and the average daily gain of broilers from 22 to 42 days of age in LPL200 group and LPL300 group were significantly increased (P<0.05), and the feed to gain ratio was significantly decreased (P<0.05). 2) Compared with the control group, the total cholesterol content in serum of broilers at 35 days of age in LPL300 group was significantly decreased (P<0.05). 3) The lipase activity of ileum chyme of broilers at 28, 35 and 42 days of age in LPL300 group was significantly higher than that in the other groups (P<0.05), and the amylase activity in ileum chyme of broilers at 42 days of age in LPL300 group was significantly higher than that in the other groups (P<0.05). 4) Compared with the control group, the glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity in pectorales of broilers at 35 days of age in LPL200 group and LPL300 group was significantly increased (P<0.05), and the GSH-Px activity in liver of broilers at 28 and 35 days of age in LPL supplemental groups was significantly increased (P<0.05). The superoxide dismutase activity in liver of broilers at 28 and 35 days of age in LPL300 group was significantly higher than that in the other groups (P<0.05). In summary, dietary LPL can significantly decrease the total cholesterol content in serum, enhance the antioxidant ability, and increase the intestinal digestive enzyme activity, therefore decrease the feed to gain ratio and improve the growth performance of broilers. The proper LPL supplemental level is 300 mg/kg in the diet for broilers with 13.19 MJ/kg apparent metabolic energy.
