Abstract

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is a coenzyme of numerous dehydrogenases, which participates in a variety of biological oxidation processes in intracellular fat, protein, sugar and other nutrients metabolism. It is very important to maintain the normal physiological function of cells. Recent studies have found that NAD metabolism could regulate intestinal immune function and played an important role in maintaining immune homeostasis in animals. However, researches on NAD metabolism have not attracted much attention in livestock and poultry, and the mechanism is still unclear. Therefore, after reviewing the distribution and metabolism of NAD, we analyzed the possible mechanisms of intestinal immune function mediated by NAD metabolism in terms of deacetylation of histone, macrophage polarization, and interaction with intestinal microbiota. The aim is to provide theoretical basis for nutritionally improving intestinal immunity by regulating NAD metabolism in livestock and poultry.
