Abstract

Methane emissions from animal husbandry have made the global climate warmer. Countries around the world were paying more and more attention to methane emission reduction. Understanding the biological characteristics of methane emission from ruminants is the prerequisite for formulating methane emission reduction measures. Changing diets or using additives are currently the most effective measures, but they have inconsistent or short-term effects. According to the biological characteristics of ruminant methane emissions, targeted, long-term and stable methane emission reduction measures could be formulated, this review mainly focused on cattle.
