Abstract

Mitochondria are the center of cell metabolism, including cell energy metabolism, cell apoptosis, immunity and so on. Mitochondria are also the first line of defense for cells under various pressures. Therefore, correct protein folding and quality control are important for maintaining mitochondrial function and cell survival. Here, the paper reviews the mechanisms of mitochondrial function damage (mainly focusing on mitochondrial autophagy and mitochondrial unfolded protein response) and the research methods of mitochondrial function. It provides a theoretical basis for promoting the application of mitochondria-targeted nutritional regulators in animal production.
