Bile acids, as a kind of key bioactive molecule, not only participate in glucose and lipid metabolism, but also play the role of a signal bridge between the host and gut microbiota. The gut microbiota is closely related to liver metabolism and intestinal health. It utilizes its unique metabolic capacity to influence the synthesis, transformation and signal transduction of bile acids, thereby playing a significant role in the host’s metabolic state. This article reviews how gut microbiota affect bile acid metabolism and its receptors, and deeply explores the regulatory mechanism of the gut microbiota-bile acid axis on enterohepatic diseases, aiming to provide a reference for the development of precise nutritional regulatory measures targeting the gut microbiota to prevent or alleviate related diseases and protect intestinal health.
Key words: gut microbiota; bile acids; regulation mechanism; intestinal health
